The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences basically deals with two subjects—English and Economics.

The objective of the English course is to focus on the LSRW skills, i.e., the Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing abilities of students so as to create communication skills that are cohesive and effective.

Science & Humanities block

The syllabus is divided into five units. The first unit, which deals with reading skills focus on comprehension, skimming, scanning, note making, etc. The second section deals with introduction to technical writing, correct grammar/ usage, sentence structure, and conciseness in writing. The third section dealing with written communication looks into the making of resumes, synopsis, business letters, etc. In the fourth section, attention is paid to dialogue practice and group discussions, which will effectively enhance the speaking skills of students. The fifth section emphasizes reference skills with respect to the use of dictionaries, writing formal technical reports, etc.

The Economics and Management course is prescribed for 7th and 8th semester students. This course deals with the various aspects of management studies like function of management, production management, material management, personnel management and industrial relation, etc. The basic aim of this course is to hone the management-oriented skills of engineering students.

An Interactive Language Laboratory is being set up to help the students to prepare for GRE, TOEFL and other competitive examinations.
